A group of Canadian experts from the University of Windsor in Ontario began a research in 2009 about an unusual weed that might be the cure for cancer.
Everything began when an oncologist found something amazing in one cancer patient. You might not believe this, but this story is about the plant dandelion!
An expert from the University of Windsor, Pamela Ovadje, did an amazing work about this issue. She studied the anti-cancer effects of dandelion and alike extracts.
According to Pamela Ovadje:
“We had information from an oncologist, a collaborator here in Windsor, who had patients that showed improvement after taking dandelion root tea. And so, with a phone call, we decided to start studying what was in this tea that made patients respond to it, so we started digging up dandelions.”
At the beginning she was pretty suspicious, not because it was a natural resource for cure:
“I figured dandelions are everywhere, and if there was something to it, people would have found this out already, “
It is pretty amazing that experts decided to dedicate their knowledge in studying the effects of the dandelion root and the outcomes are fascinating!
“Since the commencement of this project, we have been able to successfully assess the effect of a simple water extract of dandelion root in various human cancer cell types in the lab and we have observed its effectiveness against human T-cell leukemia, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, and pancreatic and colon cancers, with no toxicity to non-cancer cells. Furthermore, these efficacy studies have been confirmed in animal models (mice) that have been transplanted with human colon cancer cells.”
The extract from dandelion root started to be practiced on humans in February 2015. Still this is in its early stage 1, for blood-related cancers, for example leukemia and lymphoma.
As Dr. Siyaram Pandey, a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Windsor and primary research investigator for the project says, this root extract has shown great potential to eliminate cancer cells.
The extract stimulates the cancer cells to endure the process of apoptosis. In this process, the cells stimulate a so called intracellular death program because they are no longer needed in the affected area. Or to put it our words, the root extract of dandelion activates the cells to ‘kill themselves’ without making any further problems.
This is a lot more useful than chemo because apoptosis process can kill two cells at once. It is much faster and bearable process. Also it will not harm the healthy cells, as most of chemo medicines do.
Most importantly, this extract is higher in concentration than the one which is currently on the market. Although the studies are still in progress, still this amazing extract proves to be the future cure for cancer!
